CAPE TOWN – One of the four men convicted of the gang rape and murder of Valencia Farmer in Eerste River in 1999 will be released on parole on Tuesday.
Russel van Wyk will be released from Drakenstein Prison in Paarl.
Farmer was 14-years-old when she was stabbed more than 50 times in a derelict house near her home. She later died in Tygerberg Hospital after telling police who her attackers were.
Van Wyk was a teenager when he was convicted of the gang rape and murder of Farmer in 1999.
He was sentenced to 23 years imprisonment in 2001.
Earlier this year, he was granted parole.
The 32-year-old has about 5 years of his sentence left. Two other attackers received double life sentences each.
Last year, a fourth attacker, Elmario Maasdorp, was handed a 23-year sentence. This came after he entered into a plea and sentence agreement with the State.
