JUSTICE BESS NKABINDE DELIVERS LAST JUDGMENT AT CONCOURT

JOHANNESBURG – Acting Deputy Chief Justice Bess Nkabinde has delivered her final judgment as her term at the Constitutional Court comes to an end.

A special ceremony to mark her retirement was held on Thursday morning.

Former Justices Albie Sachs and Yvonne Mokgoro as well as National Council of Provinces (NCOP) chairperson Thandi Modise were in attendance.

Nkabinde was appointed in 2006 as a justice of the highest court in the land.

She was chosen in her current position when deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke retired last year, making her the first woman to hold that position in the country.

Nkabinde will leave at the end of the year after serving 12 years as a justice of the court.

She’s being lauded for her contribution to the legal system and her sensitivity when dealing with issues of race and gender.
