PRETORIA – The latest Gupta leaks emails have revealed that Black First Land First leader Andile Mngxitama received instructions from the controversial family to write about and question the funding of online publication BizNews, which had been critical of the Guptas.

News24 reports on Monday morning that Atul Gupta was among a group which identified BizNews editor Alec Hogg as a threat and discussed ways to silence him.

Mngxitama has denied earlier reports that he and his BLF organisation are being funded by the Guptas but has stated publicly recently that he will now seek their financial support.

In an attempt to silence critics early last year, the Guptas and their associates sent a legal letter to Hogg, who promptly published the letter online.

News24 reports that former Oakbay chief executive Nazeem Howa wrote in an email, as part of a media team group, that Hogg had called their bluff, while Atul Gupta replies “handle him with full focus as soon as possible”.

Although the author of the letter to Mngxitama is not identified, someone in the media team group told him to write something about Hogg and ask him questions about who funds BizNews.

Mngxitama denies any knowledge of the instruction.
