CAPE TOWN – A City of Cape Town law enforcement officer arrested on drug possession charges is due back in the dock next week.
Clinton Langeveldt made a brief appearance in the Bellville magistrates court on Thursday.
He was arrested this week by the Hawks for being in possession of tens of thousands of mandrax tablets, valued at nearly R2 million.
Authorities were acting on a tip-off.
Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security JP Smith has confirmed that pre-suspension procedures are being instituted.
Langeveldt was off-duty at the time of his arrest and also breached protocols as he was in possession of his official firearm.
Meanwhile, members attached to Operation Combat have this week also arrested three suspects in Wynberg for the possession of mandrax worth about R50,000.
