CHAMBER OF MINES RULES OUT TALKS WITH MINISTRY OVER DISPUTED CHARTER

JOHANNESBURG – The chief executive of South Africa’s Chamber of Mines said on Wednesday the industry lobby group had given up on talks with the mines ministry over revisions to an industry charter, which include raising targets for black ownership.

“We are of the view that engaging with the minister directly is not going to achieve a set of results for the industry that is workable. We only have confidence that the courts will deliver a certain outcome,” Roger Baxter told Reuters on the sidelines of a mining conference in Johannesburg.
