CAPE TOWN – Controversial UK public relations company Bell Pottingerhas reportedly appointed an international law firm to audit the work it has done for the Gupta-owned company Oakbay Investments.

Bell Pottinger has been accused of stoking racial tensions in South Africa in a bid to take the spotlight off President Jacob Zuma and the Guptas.

The company’s reported strategies were revealed in a string of leaked emails detailing the Gupta’s alleged illegal dealings to capture the state.

AmaBhungane says that the documents further reveal that Bell Pottinger also helped the MK Military Veterans Association and the ANC Youth League in their campaigns to discredit Zuma and Gupta critics.

According to the Financial Times and PR WeeklyBell Pottinger has appointed a law firm to audit all the work it has done for its former client, Oakbay Investments.

The UK agency reportedly hopes this will provide an independent record of its actions that will allow it to answer and dismiss recent allegations leveled against it.

Two months ago The PR company announced it would not longer handle the Oakbay account.

Since the appearance of the leaked email, a petition has been drawn up calling for a UK parliamentary inquiry into Bell Pottinger‘s dealings.

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) have indicated that they are considering further steps against the agency.

Bell Pottinger has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

It’s understood an audit report can be expected within the next few weeks.

The company has not responded to EWN’s enquiry yet.
